Go to the AVID website (banks.cuipblogs.org), Click under “Useful Links” and Click on Career Exploration webquest. Once you are there, please review each of the tabs.

Your next assignment will be listed there.

Under the “Process” tab (located on the left side of  the page), review the documents at the bottom of the page.  Each of these documents are included on your “Chosen Career” research project packet.  These  are copies if you lose your copy  that I have given to you.

Your next assignment is to complete an outline for the research paper you will be writing on your “Chosen Career”.

There are three (3) ways to set your portfolio. Follow the prompts presented on the screen.

Post on the blog under comments section.  Make certain you follow the class blog rules.

• Locate the article section and read the following article

Click on the third url “ Illinois Career Cluster Model ” under “Resources” on the “Introduction” page of the Career Exploration Webquest.

• Read the entire handout and answer the following questions:

1) What is POS ?  Define and explain in your own words.

2) Who benefits from Career Pathways?

3) What are the six guiding principles?

• Go back to the AVID blog ( banks.cuipblogs.org) and answer these questions in the comment section of this blog.

All answers must use proper grammar and sentence structure.

This assignment is worth 75 points.

TASK #1

Read the article, “Follow Your Dreams”. This article is located under “Resources” at the bottom of the page.   Complete the following tasks below.

• Write an essay summarizing the article. What is your opinion of what is stated in the article? Do you feel that it is necessary to actually have a “back plan” or do you have the personal determination to go after your dream.  Please use examples from the text to support your opinion.

Answer the following questions:

• What are the odds of you becoming a professional baseball player?
• In 2009, what was the median salary for an athlete; the hourly pay for an actor?

TASK #2 –

Click on the second url “National Career Clusters” under “Resources” on the “Introduction” page.

• Review the “Career Clusters ” tab on the website.
  • State in your own words, what is the purpose of the National Career Cluster Framework?

• How many Career Clusters are there?   As you review the Career Clusters, identify which of career clusters your desired career  choice will fall.
• Once you have chosen the particular career, click on the “Pathways”, list  the skills required for your career choice.
